drei (ver-)suchungen

In our first joint project, the two collectives, Sinfonietta Bern and WorkshOpera Bern, are taking on not just one, but three operas at once. Together, we are preparing a total of three performances of Kurt Weill’s Die 7 Todsünden, Gian Carlo Menotti’s The Telephone, and the world premiere of El perro perdido by Mexican composer Ricardo Acosta.

In this project, three completely different languages of words and music come together, yet form a harmonious whole. This takes both us and our audience on an intriguing journey of discovering connections, similarities, and differences, while also providing colorful and varied entertainment.

Thematically, the concept of “searching” takes center stage: In Weill, the protagonist Anna desperately searches for a way to prevent her family’s social decline; in Menotti, Ben looks for a moment when his girlfriend is not on the phone so he can propose to her; and in El perro perdido, a man searches for his lost dog in the forest with the help of two strangers — and, in the process, also searches for himself.
