WORKSHOPERA BERN

Mezzosoprano
Ambra Biaggi
Born in Preonzo (Bellinzona), in Italian-speaking Switzerland, Ambra Biaggi began her musical education at the piano. Through various experiences, including participation in musicals and theatre projects, she developed her passion for working with the voice. She initially deepened this work with Nikla Bontadelli and later with Janice Harper-Smith in Berlin.
After two years of studying musicology and sociology at the University of Bern, she began her classical voice studies in 2019 at the Bern University of the Arts (HKB) in the class of Prof. Christian Hilz. In summer 2022, she completed her Bachelor of Arts in Music with distinction. She is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Classical Singing with a minor at the Opera Studio in Biel/Bienne in the voice class of Tanja A. Baumgartner.
She has received further artistic inspiration through masterclasses at the Austria Baroque Academy in Austria with Christian Hilz, Susanne Rydén, and Marina Bartoli, where she was awarded a scholarship in 2020 for the following year. In 2022, she performed as a soloist in Mendelssohn’s Walpurgisnacht with the Orchestra Opus Bern under the musical direction of Christa Gerber.
In 2021, she founded the Duo LiR together with pianist Paola Lepori. In 2023, she sang the role of Fidalma in Domenico Cimarosa’s Il matrimonio segreto at the international Opera Studio “Silvio Varviso” at the Ticino Musica Festival under the musical direction of Umberto Finazzi and stage direction by Daniele Piscopo.
Another important stage experience in the same year was an opera gala dedicated to Gioachino Rossini, where she performed the roles of Arsace in Aureliano in Palmira and Tisbe in La Cenerentola with the ensemble of the Bern Symphony Orchestra (BSO) La Banda Storica under the direction of Jakob Lehmann.
In the 2024/25 season at the Theater an der Wien, she sings in the production Combattimenti with music by Claudio Monteverdi. In 2025, she attends the Accademia del Belcanto “Rodolfo Celletti” and participates in the 51st Festival della Valle d’Itria (Puglia, Italy).
Alongside classical singing, experimenting with other genres as well as vocal techniques and improvisation is also an integral part of her artistic training. As part of her studies, she collaborates on various projects with composition students at the Bern University of the Arts. This openness to different forms of vocal expression further enriches her artistic profile.
