Julia Frischknecht
Soprano Julia Frischknecht was born in 1995 and grew up in Switzerland.
From 2015 to 2020, she studied classical voice at the Bern University of the Arts in the class of Prof. Christian Hilz, where she completed her Bachelor’s degree with distinction in summer 2018 and earned a Master of Arts in Performance in 2020, graduating summa cum laude.
From 2021 to 2023, Julia Frischknecht pursued a specialized Master of Performance with a focus on solo performance, again in Bern under Prof. Christian Hilz. She was also awarded distinction for this degree.
She received further artistic inspiration in various masterclasses with renowned musicians such as Prof. Jan Philip Schulze, Prof. Susanne Ryden, Cappucine Chiaudani, Roberta Mameli, Tobias Truniger, Brigitte Fassbaender, and Kammersängerin Prof. Dr. h.c. Christa Ludwig.
The young soprano has already gained stage experience in various fields. In addition to numerous song recitals, she performs in operetta and opera productions. Frischknecht is also a board and ensemble member of the opera company WorkshOpera Bern, which is dedicated to bringing fresh energy to the world of classical music and opera in particular.
Alongside her own performances, she is actively involved in concert organization and outreach, serving as president of the “Konzertfonds Wohlen” foundation and as a member of the Walter Furrer Association.
Julia Frischknecht made her international operatic debut in May 2023 in Brandenburg an der Havel as Liesl Karlstadt in the opera Stillhang by Christian Spitzenstaetter.
In addition to staged productions, she maintains an active concert career in both secular and sacred repertoire.
Her most recent CD recording was made in 2023 in Bern with pianist Igor Andreev, featuring 12 Alte Weisen and Türkische Lieder by the Swiss composer Walter Furrer.
In 2016 and 2019, Julia Frischknecht was a prizewinner of the Austria Barock Akademie. She also received the Friedl Wald Foundation Advancement Award in 2017 and the Mathilde Müller Prize in 2021. Upon completing her second Master’s degree, the soprano was recently awarded the Advancement Prize of the Tschumi Foundation.
